I am totally new to the GH1, but how are you guy manually focusing the 14-140mm kit lens? Am I crazy or is it hard to do?

Also how are you guys keeping a steady shot handheld while manually focusing this thing? Any suggestions and techniques is much appreciated.

I am on the hunt for some cool used lenses (main reason I bought the GH1) which I think will be much easier to pull focus.

Hi,

it is a pain to focus manually with the kit lens since you have to turn the focus wheel about a hundred times. As long as you don´t have your other lenses yet you´re stuck to it. You should look into buying a follow focus and a rod support, that´s the way to pull focus anyways.

switch it to manual focus and turn the ring a hundred times as mentioned before to get focus =P It is definitely easier with other manual lenses.

Why don't you set it on autofocus and enable in the menu manual fucus correction?
Individual menu, Page 3, last enty on thet side: AF+MF.

This way the AF gets you near and with MF you can do the fine tuning.

Cool I will try that, but I also want to be able to go from completely out of focus to infocus at times. Not a lot because I think that get's over done.

I am definitely going to get rods and FF, it's just there is so many options my head is spinning.

Other than one 16mm lens I don't have anything. I plan on picking up 1 or 2 more cheap 16mm and then some primes. Still trying to decided nikon, FD, etc etc.

Will I be able to use a FF on all my lenses?

But that require you to keep the shutter button pressed half way and you can easily mess up by accidentally stopping the recording.

I wish they can change the shutter button behavior so that it does not start or stop the recording in the video mode and can only be used to do the AF + MF.
