Manual focus with pancake lens

Hey guys, I came across with this video (this is not by me btw)

So here's the question, the new hack comes with the manual controls for the video mode, so does it also affect the manual focusing of the camera with the m4/3 lenses? :huh: (Since you can't manual focus with m4/3 originally)

Did the guy hack his camera?
I haven't tried it yet since my GF13 is not with me right now...
 
It's possible to use manual focus with the pancake 20mm in the hacked video modes. Turn the mode dial to the camera icon, select MF using the focus selector button, then select M/A/S/P mode in the video settings menu. It's pretty hard to manually focus on the fly since there's no magnified focus assist screen once you've started shooting video.
 
Just got my pancacke lens an hour ago. Manual focusing is easy. The ring is soooo smooth. The lens seems sharp. If only we had HDMI out....an externalmonitor would be nice.

I got to say though...I have a handful of old manual lenses and they are robust in thier build. This Pana lens feels like...um...cheap in comparison....but it performs very well.
 
It also crashes my gh1 (c settings, 24p clicked, sandisk extreme iii 30mbs 16gb card) more than my old fd glass....

But a great lens no doubt about it.
 
I've read your thread but your pics look allot softer than what I'm getting at the moment. I'm just keeping things on the shallower dof side of things with an ND filter or keeping some out of focus foreground objects in the frame on any deep dof shot I take to ease the codecs job.

I find this function totally unappropriate! I think it should allow me to MF all the way not just inside a small predefinded range!

I agree with the concept but disagree with the specific sentiment...they're really nice....especially the 20mm...more like a video focus ring, less like a photography focus ring which are too hard to do a smooth rack focus with.
