if anyone else stops by this thread that has some advice Im willing to try anything rather then go right to a authorized repair shop....those places cost so much...thansks
Sometimes dirt gets into the optical sensor that handles the manual focus. It may be worth a try to see if it's something that you can handle. If not you would need to have it looked at.
We've done this hundreds of times. Use the thumb screw to take off the lens shade.
Use a jewelers screw driver to remove the two black screws for the "Leica" badge plate.
Use the same screw drive to remove the four gold screws on the focus ring. Once the ring is out you will see a bunch of small teeth. Make sure there is no dirt on them and that none of them are bent or broken. Then check the photo sensor to make sure that it's dirt free. It's at the bottom of the lens.
If that still doesn't do it, then it may be the ribbon that goes to the photo sensor.
Let us know if we can be of anymore help!

I have this exact same problem, but can't find the "small teeth." Where are they and what do they look like? There's a ring behind the focus ring which seems to be removable but I don't want to take it off since it appears to be held on by a ribbon connector (holding in the "photo sensor" I assume.)
