Manual Focus Assist on A7s

both peaking and zoom-in work perfectly with my vintage primes
with modern lenses, you can set it for automatic zoom-in when you touch the focus wheel, which obviously won't work with my vintage primes, I have to press the button

Samuel, I like quite a few others with the A7s use lenses including zoom lenses that are completely manual. No focus assist and so on. I am taking about say Nikon lenses.

I am trying to interpret what you are saying here. Can you tell us this, can you do motorized zoom in and out using the camera with Sony lenses on the A7s?

I never talked about motorized zoom, no idea if it has it or not, all my lenses are primes.

AFAIK, with every lens you try, you'll have focus peaking and zoom-in available at the press of a button. So my answer for the original question would be that you have manual focus assist on every lens, not only FE lenses.

If you use E-mount lenses, you'll also be able to go directly into digital zoom-in mode (the focus assist thing) just by touching the focus ring. It works on my Sigma 19mm f/2.8 and 30mm f/2.8, which are E lenses. No idea about any other lens, everything else I own is vintage. And it's just a matter of how you trigger the zoom-in mode: with my vintage primes I just click a button to go to zoom-in mode, it's not a hassle at all.
