I'm sure this has been covered, but incase it hasn't, I have my 50mm prime lens at F1.8 and finally noticed that you can do a manual F-Stop, without touching the aperture ring.
Solution: Get off Live-View, make sure you're in manual, set F-Stop to what you prefer, switch back to live view, and you'll see a difference.
I'll post examples, but I went from super shallow F 1.8, then tuned it to F22, and it brought a hell of a lot of noise, but it was truly F22 because the aperture was nearly closed.
Like I said I'll post examples when I get a chance.
So, it would appear that D90 plays with the shutter speed/ISO automatically when you do not touch the EV buttons. Clearly when I went to F22, the ISO rose above 2000-3200 (I can't gauge it but its an assumption).
Again I apologize if this has been covered it's just a series of experimentations.
If Nikon could only give us manual control of the Iso/Shutter Speed and a much higher set Bit-Rate, D90 would be a beast.
