Manual controls and better compression...is it really possible?

I think we all are hoping (myself included) that Nikon will address the lack of manual controls in live view and low bitrate of M-JPEG.

The thing I was wondering was, is it actually possible for Nikon to fix this on the D90 via a firmware update or are these just pipe dreams and will we have to buy a new body to get those things?
 
You'll have to by a new body. It may be possible to adapt the system to work with different compression at the software level, but the expense of implementing this in a free firmware upgrade would just be a bad business decision.
