Manfrotto MVM500A issues

I have one of these using it with a Nikon D4 and now an FS5 with the kit lens. If I make any movement with it the cartridge clicks because of stiction it seems. Oddly I cannot see it in vision but I can hear it click and it ruins any audio that an on camera mic picks up.
The thing is rated for 5KG so I don't think I'm overweight. I'm just wondering if this is normal behaviour? It feels pretty useless to me as it is and I'm wondering if anybody else has had a similar experience. I cannot see any way to adjust this stiction either.

Well, the head is a Manfrotto so it's going to be hit and miss.

But if you're using an on-camera mic, I'm guessing audio isn't that important for your project? If it's only a sound but the head doesn't hitch or jolt, get a mic near your subject and away from your hands and so on.

It may just need to be broken in - find the spot that does that and work it out about a hundred times and see if that helps.

Thanks for replying Michael. I only bought the thing as an emergency for a job and noticed then that it would click on extreme tilts but a second shooter was using it and I didn't get any feedback from her about it. When I tested it with my new FS5 the clicking became much worse. It was just a test so yes the audio wasn't especially important. I just mentioned it to get across how noticeable the click was. Mind you if I was doing a vox pop at an event the on camera mic is very likely going to be the audio so it is significant that it is so audible and currently renders the monopod useless.
It isn't the head. I think it is stiction in the ball socket at the base rather than the "cartridge" that is just above that.
I just wondered if anybody else had had similar issues before I contact Manfrotto. It would appear that nobody has.
Might you have a recommendation for a better one?
Best wishes. Patrick.
