Manfrotto 585 or HAGUE Mini Motion-Cam Stabilizer

Hello everyone,

I've been looking at stabilizers, and came across the Hague Mini Motion Cam stabilizer, and also another one made by Manfrotto , the 585 Modosteady.

Would any of you suggest either of these stabilizers ?

I also wonder if the Manfrotto model has been at $99 for some time now, I saw a video on Vimeo earlier, and the guy said retailed for just under $200. His video was uploaded a year ago this month.

With such a price drop, something tells me this stabilizer is not going to be a good purchase. Perhaps it has been a dud, and they just want to sell them now.

I'd like to hear from any of you, any input, suggestions are very much welcomed.

Dave.

I've heard good things about the Hague, and the Modosteady is just about entirely plastic. What carmera will you be mounting on either of these?

Hi Skinny!

I'd be using the Canon HV20 camcorder. Wowa, plastic for the Modosteady.... that's a bit dangerous. Not good :-(

Well I welcome all comments.

The problem with teh Hague, is that it comes from the U.K. I don't see any info for American purchases. I'm surprised that B&H or Adorama doesn't have this, ( reseller for them )

Thanks

Dave

hopefully someone here in the US can chime in and let us know how they purchased, because quite a few users on this board have them. ebay perhaps?...haven't checked.

yeah, i tried the Modosteady at a shop here and i wouldnt put an hv20 on it with full confidence. not that the unit isn't well built, it's just well built from plastic. it's just my mindset about plastic, ya know?

Hi Skinny! I understand what you mean about the plastic. Not good.

the $99 price makes me want to try it, but I'd have to hear from many who have it to say they love it.

on another board a guy is selling a new product called the SturdyCam. It looks good, price is just over $300 USD. I doubt this is news though it was announced a few months ago.

He uses some special new way in his gimbal , which supposedly make it a notch above the rest. ( but not as good as the Merlin obviously )

Dave.

i thought the SturdyCam demo videos looked pretty good. its sort of a crude looking gizmo to me. it seems to work pretty good though. not quite as much of the left to right "rocking" that i see with a lot of the smaller units.

im guessing the left to right balance is controlled by those washers attached to that long horizontal bolt? screwing the long bolt in or out to control the L-R balance? if that what it does that would be a plus vs the Glidecam 2000 Pro. the Glidecam is still a little cheaper though.

i wonder how heavy of a camera this will take? i wonder how strong this gimbal is?

interesting.

Hi all, just wanted to give my 2 cents. i normally just lurk around.

I did the same research a year ago and basically came down to the two choices for my HF100. I remember finding a video clip on youtube on the modosteady and it wasn't stable at all. So I then bought the hague and i'm very impress. I do love using it. Although, it does take some time to understand how to use it since it is so light. You'll definitely need some practicing around the house or what not. But for the price point and overall product, it's not bad.

In regards to purchasing it, I bought it through the uk site. Came up to around $150 USD. I dont remember exactly how many days it took to get to California but I do remember that it didnt take all that much time, being that it was out of the country.

Just placed the order. It was just under 89 Brit Pounds which should be equal to approximately $135 US dollars. I know my CC adds a little grift offshore transactions so it will probably come out to close to $140 shipped to California.

cheers

cool John ! Keep us posted, I'm really curious to see how long it takes you to receive it. I look forward to seeing some footage too, once you get it.

thanks for posting !

BUY THE HAGUE

1. You can actually find multiple videos of SUCCESSFUL steadicam shots with the Hague...the modosteady you can't find jack ****.

2. I own the modosteady...useless garbage. It picks up every jitter in your hand and there's no separation via a gimbal to smooth it out, so FORGET putting a DSLR on there without IS and it doesn't take that much weight and the "gimbal" is too stiff for true steadi work.

Hi John,

did you pay that "VAT" ? , this is a taxt for the U.K. so wouldn't be applicable for the United States I'm guessing, but I could be wrong....

Price: £72.96 (Including VAT at 17.5%)
