Sorry guys, numbers aren't searchable so I can't find any talk on this tripod.

Any opinions on it:

Manfrotto 525MVB/501 Video Tripod Kit 525MVB, 501, 520BALL, Probag

I was mistaken in thinking my Verbon was fine. Fine for Super 8, that is. I just don't trust using it for my DVX100B. I'm going to go in and try out these tripods, but I wouldn't mine getting some opinions first.

Cheers,

Mark

I bought that combo (503 instead of 501) with my DVX and have been using it for a few years now.
Looked at several brands and this was the best bang for the buck. No, it's not a Vinten, but it's also about half the price. The tandem legs are sturdy and don't exibit any torqueing when panning.
Also, once you use a ball leveling head, you'll never go back...it's an absolute necessity for my shoots.
I would, however, opt for the 503 head.
It's a true fluid head (as opposed to the 501) and is more than adequate for a DVX with Matte box, rails, handle mounted monitor, etc.
Hope this helps.

I have that combo with the 503 head and it's great. Good value for what you get. The 503 head with the ball leveling head is really handy.

I also have the 503/525MVB setup. I've had it for about three years and don't have any complaints.

Thanks guys. Definite consensus seems to be the 503 Head is worth the extra $200. I appreciate it.

it should just be 100 dollars more for the 503 head. Make sure you check out BandH photo they dont charge sales tax if your not in NY

I upgraded from the 503/525 combo to a Vinten Vision 3 some weeks ago. Well the 503 is ok for the price, but once you worked with a Vision head or a Sachtler, you will notice why the price is higher. If I was in your situation again, I would save some more money and get a Vinten or Sachtler. It's an investment that will make you happy for a long time, which the 503 wasn't for me.

Vinten and Sachtler and mentioned quite a bit but has anyone ever used a miller. And if so what are your thoughts on them.
