Manfrotto 504 opinions

Hello Listers,

I asked this in hardware, but didn't garner any response.

Have any of you purchased the Manfrotto 504HD. Any opinions? Would you buy it again? What would you buy instead at under $700. The Manfrotto 516 is around $600, any thoughts between the two? The 504 is $400.

I would really love to throwdown $1300 for a Sachtler, but can't just now.

Thanks in advance,
Grant

You have to get the libec ls38

You have to get the libec ls38

I did a lot of research before buying my tripod and after a lot of flip-flop opinions about some of the low end manfrottos I went for a libec.

the Libec LS38 to be exact.

I can personally tell you that this tripod is AWESOME!!!!! Its SUPER smooth and features a fluid head with tension the furthur down or up you tilt to allow you to get slow movements real smooth because of the force against your pushing. The head does not have tilt or drag controls but with the tension this head has and its smoothness I have never felt the need to have them. Again I think the best option for less than $1000. I chose the option with the mid jevel spreader although they also have one with a floor spreader. The spreader very easily pops off to allow Ultimate low angle shots. Bu this with the ultimate confidence for your HVX and gear.

Did I tell you the head supports up to 17.6 lbs!

If you have any other questions let me know.......I will continue to rave about this tripod.

Doesn't the 60 inch max height bother you though?
I'm looking for something that I can get above the crowd occasionally.

I bought the 504HD. It is a great head for the price. I've used it with my HPX-500, HPX-170 and Canon T2i. The head balances well with the HPX-500 with no accessories. Add accessories and it's not 100% balanced.

I have heard that Manfrotto is going to make all their heads with the Bridging Technology.

MB,

I already have several tripods, so mostly I am interested in heads.

Thanks Steve,

I ordered a 504 the other day, so I'll try it out. I have other Manfrotto heads, so I wanted to stay with the same plates. I have a 503 and even my not very heavy HPX170 doesn't balance which is a real pain. I wonder how the 504 compares to the more expensive 516 or 519.

The next time around I want to go Sachtler or something similar, but I have other pressing needs for my investment $$ at the moment.

The head performs very well. Pan and Tilt are very smooth. I am a former Sachtler user.

519 will hold a heavier load.

i have the 516 and it is on heavy duty head that i would deffntly recommend for an hvx although i havent used any other tripod to compare it with
