Manfrotto 394 Quick Release

What you have is really a better design. You have to slide it in place while holding in a button, once you release the button it will slide forward and back for some position adjustment and you have a lock lever to tighten it down. It is supposed to be a cheaper version of the Manfrotto 577 (which I use). The 501PL plates are also compatible with the Manfrotto 501 and 501HDV heads. I have about 5 of the plates.

You only ordered the wrong thing if you have a tripod head with the 394.

What you got has a better "balance" and in the long run should be more secure, in addition I just checked user reviews on the 394's and a few complained of inconsistent fit and difficulty in getting it to release. With the 501PL and the 577 adapter you loosen the one lever and hold the button in while you slide it out.

A much better system.

okay great... thanks bruce... i was confused why the 394 "clicked" into place and this one slid into place. i might buy some more of these in that case... thanks for the input
