I am looking for a video head for my 550D.

I am looking at the 701HDV with 055 legs. Will this support the camera rig when
I eventually get the Zacuto dslr docu kit?

The lenses I shoot with are the 24-105L and the Zeiss 85/1.4 at the moment.

It'll work as long as you keep your rig at around 10lbs. I'd honestly save an extra $200, and get something more heavy duty, so that you don't have to buy twice. Get something that'll support 15-20lbs. While it MAY not be necessary - it's still good to know you have room for adding more things to the rig if needed.

It work fine if you balance the camera properly. It can be a bit week if you push the weight limit and tilt the camera. A 503 works great even with more weight added.

If you can afford zeiss and a 24-105L like u claim in post 1 then buy a better head than the 701hdv

its ok but sticky at pans and crap at tilt/pan combos, only worthwhile because it is lightweight

never forget that this is THE cheapest head that any manufacturer dares to put the label 'fluid' on
so its bottom of the barrel. Priced at $160 (for head only) you get what you pay for, nothing more.

Hmm .. ok

What about the 501HDV ? Or is the 503HDV worth the extra bucks? I want to stick with manfrotto because I use it for my still photography work.

I've gotta say, I love my Davis & Sanford FM18 head. I've worked with the Manfrotto 503 and I honestly like the FM18 better.

I have to agree. It's very fluid for a $100 head. And you can't beat the 10 year warranty, for the price.
