Man dies in plane crash while jogging on the beach.

In the AP story, the pilot is quoted as saying, "I've got a lot of issues going on right now," Smith said. "I've got a plane that's all torn up. And I've got a young man that I killed."

In the full quote he adds that in the crash he dumped his coffee on a brand new pair of dockers... boy, he HAS had a bad week.

An experimental plane with oil on the windshield and the propeller fell off.
One could say that was a very unsuccessful experiment.

Also that jogging while wearing an ipod could be hazardous to your health.
One should always be ready to dodge silent planes gliding in from behind for a crash landing on the beach...

Looks like Apple could be sued- d@mn earbuds...

Will the iPod now require a warning about the possibility of getting hit by an airplane?
You should patent this, pronto. Seriously. Headphones with IR and radio sensors. "Incoming!"... BOOM!

Also a city version: headphones with built-in turn indicators, that light up automatically by reading body motion.

before all the facts are in (not trying to defend the pilot), some thoughts from an old fighter pilot;

1. All homebuilt aircraft are licensed in the "experimental" category. The Lancair is an established kit airplane, nothing experimental about it. However, maintenance and integrity are the responsibility of the pilot/owner.

2. A single person on the ground is very difficult to see from the air, until you are right on top of him, and so

3. with no propeller (no power), no altitude, and virtually no airspeed to manuever, possibly no way to avoid.

4. If this incident was protrayed in a Hollywood movie, everyone would say "no way!"

cheers

Didn't this already happen once in a city, but with a helicopter? The listening to an iPod thing was the same, I think. There might be something to that.
