Mall Digital Cinema Commercial shot with 5D and 7D

Nice work - I see you snuck your avatar into the spot.
:)

I'd be curious to hear about what lenses were used, as well as what kind of timeline you were working with (number of shoot days, etc).
Seemed like a ton of setups!

The only thing that struck me (and this is my own personal bias) was the number of dissolves... some of them worked well, but a few felt like they could have been straight cuts just as easily.
But overall - it looked great. Good work.

Great job. What did you use to transcode?

Bill,

My NLE is currently Edius, my workflow is usually native files on edius with minor cc. but since the grading is aggressive and there are few VFX work, the workflow went like;

-Rough edit straight cuts only: EDIUS -export HQ file
-Use HQ for grading and VFX in AE-export back to HQ
-Finishing, transitions and music; EDIUS->
-Export 3 formats;
1. HQ HD avi master-use this for convert in procoder to m2p for dvd giveaways.
2. WMV for internet embeds.
3. Sequential TIFFs with separate 48khz audio track for conversion to jpeg2000 in mxf wrapper for cinema server.

hope that helps. ;-)

Thanks Luis,

I agree on the dissolves. ;-)
I used the following lenses.

50mm f1.4 nikkor
20-40mm f2.8 Sigma(nikon mount)
80-200mm f2.8 Nikkor
11-16 f2.8 Tokina
80mm f1.9 mamiya(with diy canon mount)

We started our first shoot on March 5 but so much spacing in between as we relied on the "models" availability, most were real people and families who are free only on weekends.
The place is just a couple of minutes drive from our facility so it wasnt much of hassle setting up and packing. I only work with 2 assistants. Additional help comes from the mall itself.

I'll be in Dallas on the 26th. ;-) hope to meet up with my Texas based DVXuser friends soon.

wow, great job on this one. you gave me some inspiration for a trailer i need to do. btw, bohol is a nice place. i was there a couple years ago. got to hold one of those tarsiers.

Liked the spot. Good work. I like that you cut from a moving shot to a moving shot. This keeps the action going and not stale.

I also use Edius. I've tried everything else, and Edius is the best. Everything is real time. I just drop my 5D footage in the timeline and edit away, and like you, make HQ files for storage, encoding, etc. ABC stations have at least, 200 boxes of Edius. With their Panasonic P2 cards and Edius, there is nothing faster.

Thanks Johnny, about edius, I'd also like to add that, aside from being fast, its also very stable.
