Making the switch

Been a long tough choice, but I'm moving away from the AF. It has served me well, but I need more flexibility for what I'm doing. I'm fortunate to have paid it off 10x over with just under 160 camera hours.
im going to re-package with the HPX250 and a hacked GH2 rig.

The 250 will allow me to efficiently shoot sports, pressers and quick sequenced B Roll pick ups.
The hacked GH2 will be rigged for shallow DOF interviews, pocket dolly and glide cam work.
I'll miss the ND, but I need more flexibility. However, the HPX/P2 rebate pays for the GH2. Which doesn't suck.

Ill be back when the AF is reincarnated with intra 100, p2 and a professional servo zoom option.

Thanks E,

For now I do think the above mentioned kit is the right move.
nice SB spot btw! Those primes really shine.

I love my AF101 and don't regret it for a moment.

However it is not for everyone. In fact I think it is designed for a very small group of people - people who want a cinema-style camera but don't have the money for a Red, F3 or an Alexa.

I bought my AF101 to shoot short dramas. And it does it very well.

I however also get asked to shoot other things - such as live music gigs. This is when it becomes a problem. I tend to shoot using Nikon primes. I pick a focal length and have to stay with it for the entire show. Ideally I would like a fast zoom but they don't exist.

At work I have a HPX370 and use that for daily news topicals and quick stuff. When I need the range of a ENG zoom thats the tool I use. I have to have it.
It's cheaper to buy a ENG camera or what John did and get a HPX250 than It is to turn the AF-100 into one.

This is why I held on to my HMC150 instead of selling it to help pay for the AF100. As much as I love the AF and use it for the bulk of the stuff I'm shooting, there are some things my little HMC just does better... mostly everything you mentioned, John.

My HVX still gets quick ENG jobs. If I got more of those, the HPX upgrade would certainly make sense.

While the AF/14-140 isn't bad in a pinch, it's just not as dead simple as the small chip cams.
