Making the change from DVX100B to HVX200A; Should I do it?

As it states above I currently own a dvx100b and am looking to change to the hvx200A. Are there any negatives in doing this? Will I loose anything when I shoot SD on the HVX vs the DVX? Or will I get all the same when I shoot SD plus of course HD?

Thank you for your input. It is much appreciated!

I would have made the trade years ago, but if your happy with and are still able to put the dvx to use, then hey, why not. I know a lot of markets are still requesting sd media. I think you will love getting rid of tape and going tapeless media, the hvx200a is an excellent camera even by todays standards. I would go for it.

maranfilms. Thanks so much for your reply! Yeah my only concern was that because the HVX 200A is both HD and SD, i thought I would be loosing options from the SD, but I have been assured that the HVX200A not only has the same options as the DVX100B but also of course HD. Does that ring true to you? Thanks again!

Don't know if you are buying new or used, probably used if it is a 200a. You may also want to consider a HPX170. You will be giving up the tape drive, which you'll probably never use. Remember, the HVX200a only records SD to tape, so if you want HD, it will be to P2 cards. Once you see HD from your cam, you'll never shoot SD again. If you need it for some reason, you can shoot DV to P2, or better, shoot to HD and convert in post. Although much the same cam as the 200a (chips), the HPX170 has some upgraded features worth having like a wave form monitor and 6pin firewire, amongst others. It is still in production and there are lots of them used for relatively bargain priced around $2000.

unless you need SD on tape. id say the 170 is a much better camera for the money. and if i may quote grant again "there are lots of them used for relatively bargain priced around $2000." i'd say closer to $2500. but still in the same ballpark

the 170 is still my go-to camera for about 80% of my work.

Would like to get some advice. I am looking to upgrade to HD. If you only had 2K-2.2K to spend, what would be the best (i know, that's loaded) HD Camcorder/DLSR combo you could think of?
