Making my DVX "HD"

Ive posted on here before about this issue and i just want to confirm some facts. Im looking at buying the canon hv20 and want to know if there is a standard hd picture size "length x width" or is it different from camera to camera? Also, with Instant HD can i match that size with my dvx footage?

now, is it kinda like the dvx how i can go from 24p to 30p or is it that one will be
1280x720 and another will be 1920x1080?

no no. i understand the capabilities of the dvx. Can i switch between
1280x720 and 1920x1080 on the HD camera or will it just come in either
1280x720 or 1920x1080?

I think he means the Canon HV20...

Looking at the specs, it does not appear to shot 720 mode, only 1080. This isn't necessarily bad, but I am somewhat surprised it doesn't offer a 720 mode. Maybe this is common in this level of camera.

The camera's in the prosumer realm that function at 720p and 1080p are the HVX and Sony Ex1. After that, higher end stuff shoots both, but all canon's offerings shoot 1080p, JVC shoots 720p, and all other prosumer Sony cams shoot 1080i/p.
