Making Blood

I'm creating some blood on the hob for a film. I'm trying the flour based recipe. Anyone got any hints, tipsm advice. Photo's, videos or recommendations?

It wasn't going to plan, so i chucked in some Golden Syrup to experiment and now It's more like a hot frozen red yougat. :)

Bleeding out of the mouth, ears, eyes etc. Forgotten the posh name.

Also chest wounds, stabbings. Axes, such like.

We can never seem to find Corn Starch or your Corn Syrup over here In the UK. We apparently simply do not have it - It's quite annoying. So we have to follow alternative methods.. like washing up liquid! Not good for mouth blood scenes..

I think you're still one of those wheat-based societies that has not yet realized the awesomeness of corn.

Plus your gov't doesn't pay people beaucoup $$$ to grow endless piles of the damned stuff.

This was from a recent shoot. I did the regular corn syrup and and red food colouring, but I added chocolat syrup and it worked great. The red you get at food markets are usually a touch pink, so add loads of it and add yellow to it untill you like it. Some add blue, but I don't think a purpleish tint looks realistic. Though you can add a drop if it's too light (but the chocolate syrup should take care of that). No specific amounts, I just mixed and saw what I came out with.

EDIT: Just saw you have no corn syrup. That sucks. Try and find a liquid similar to that. Basically something clear, and thick. If you want to eat it then it's a touch more complicated. Hmm... not sure what would work in the place of corn syrup...

If I remember correctly, you have glucose syrup in the UK, just use that as a substitute for corn syrup.

...or make your own. Sugar, water, boil to the correct consistency (it will be stiffer cold, than when hot, and be cautious - it's like sweet, sweet napalm until it cools...)

Surface wound blood is more red in color as to internal organ wounds are deeper red in color, is that correct any EMTs here? So if the blood is coming from the
mouth, ears, eyes, are we looking at bleeding of the brain?

Also depends upon whether we're talking arterial or venous blood. Arterial blood is well-oxygenated and tends to brighter red, while venous blood is carrying little O2 and tends to the darkish purple (although both darken where they collect and pool)...also, FWIW punctured arteries give you the nicest spray. Veins tend to bleed more slowly and with less projection.

SMax - dang, I can't tell to be impressed we're talking about blood color or scared.

I don't understand... just unchain that vampire you have in the basement and you're all set...works for me!

Isn't corn starch called corn flour in the UK? (which isn't the same "corn flour" that we know of here)

Not to my knowledge Denis.. going to try Tescos tomorrow or day after. Will post pic's of the results.. It's about time we got to the bottom of this whole Corn on the cob stuff!
