Making A Backdrop For An Interview

Anyone have any experience making a backdrop? It can be simple but I just need something that looks nicer than a white wall. I think I once used a white sheet and made a criss cross pattern on the backside of it with masking tape and shined a gelled light through it from behind and it looked decent.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks

BHPhotovideo.com sells tons of backdrops at a pretty good price. If you are just looking for a solid color buy a window curtain and hang it behind the talent.

yeah i checked online but i dont have that kind of money plus i just need it for like a half hour so i am trying to figure out an alternative to buying a real one

I bought a role of Foam type fabric. The kind you would use to reupholster the inside roof of your car. I got a 4 by 7 foot roll for about 30 bucks. It is black and I shoot a light through a cookie at it.

I have used it on dozens of interviews...I just gaff it to the wall.

It looks like this when its lit. I just shot a 250 at the back drop with a CTO gel.

Thats a good idea on the foam jason - would stay nice and wrinkle free (at least more so than normal fabric). I may have to borrow this idea, it looks really nice in your shot.

yeah ill have to check the fabric store out. the foam looks nice too. hopefully there is fabric that has designs that arent too noticeable. i just want like color splotches
