Making 4x3 footage into squeezed 16x9 footage

I recently shot a feature (100A) and on one of the days, one of our cameras was set to 4x3 Full screen mode and the other to Squeeze mode. D'oh! Minus this cams footage, the entire film was shot in squeeze mode.

I have a 16x9 anamorphic FCP 4.5 timeline and will be exporting the film that way. I need to find the best way, with the least loss, to turn the 4x3 footage into anamorphic so it cuts with the squeezed footage in the scene.

I'd like to hear ALL the options no matter what the price or machine needed.

It's about 30 minutes of footage.

Thanks.

basically just crop the 16:9 image out of the 4:3 image, proportionally, and then re-size it to fit the 16:9 frame.
There are programs that do this for you that have better up-resing algorithms, but they are time consuming. in your case, however, it's only one scene so they would be useful.

What Nathan said.... plus.....

Once you drop the 4:3 footage in your 16:9 timeline, you'll see that it fills the frame vertically but there's black on either side {obviously}. Step into the clip and 'Motion' tab and resize it to fill the frame, moving it around to your ideal position.

That is, of course, if you only want to deal with it inside Final Cut. As Nathan mentioned, there are several other apps that can do this. Some may add time but they can also maintain higher resolution than just a Final Cut 'resize & crop'.
