Just as a word of warning, I think that makeup is probably the most crowded field in all of film/video, second only to aspiring directors. Definitely have your pal do some serious market research before committing to this as a career.

Specializing never hurts. And one place where a new entrant could focus their energies would be in makeup for HD, which requires a different skillset than standard-def makeup does.
