Make railing kit into a shoulder rig?

Have you tried contacting them to see if they'll sell you just the parts you need for the upgrade?

The Tilta shoulder pad and handles will easily slip on there.... and if the rails are too short, just buy a couple of 15mm aluminium tubes from your local hardware store.

That's easy for you Europeans to say! :)

Anything metric-sized is annoyingly hard to find in much of the US, except for a limited selection of wrenches and machine screws. I'm not sure where the OP lives though.

Really? Isn't it just called something in inches instead? That's weird... well, maybe you're right. I've gotten used to seeing 15mm aluminium at my local hardware store in max lengths of 2 metres, maybe I should start exporting that stuff ;P

Thanks! I tried looking up The Tilta shoulder pad and handles but i can't find anything.

And yea i tried to contact indisystems but they haven't responded to me and it's been almost a week.

I use the Cavision handles and shoulder mount. B&H used to have 'em separately. The shoulder mount is very very adjustable - a lot of shoulder mounts for rails also aren't offset enough to get your eye to the loupe properly, so look for alignment issues.

The cavision shoulder mount is hard plastic - it doesn't bug me but if i had it on my shoulder for hours, I'd wrap some padding around it. No easy place to attach a counterweight, but I've taped a weight plate to it and found I just don't like a counterweight and do fine without it.

A good shoulder piece should let you quickly adjust it for, say, shooting extremely "up" tilted shots (say, right under someone looking up, like a music video shot).

The cool think with rails-based shoulder hardware is you can usually leave it attached when on sticks, and quickly grab it for a shoulder shot. I find that really useful.

But notice how bloody cheap that complete rig is.... the amount of gear you get in it is very nice for the price.

I took off the screw that is attached to the shoulder rosette and added my longer rails...

So basically I have a pretty versatile rig now. Shoulder with off-set, shoulder without off-set (which will become more interesting once the 5D mk III gets clean HDMi out in April... then I can use it with the Cineroid EVF and the Samurai.) and even when the camera is not off-set there's enough room under the rig to mount a QR to the base plate and use the whole rig on sticks.

And trust me... this thing is solid! Yet easy to configure...
