Major problem with batch recapture

Hey, some of my master clips got corrupted and i have corrupted frames in 3 of my sequences. I want to do a batch recapture for the three sequences but when i try to do one i get the following message:

"Halted on clip 'Tape 8a'.
Exception: A drop frame tape was inserted. A non-drop frame tape was expected. Please insert the correct non-drop frame tape."

Now i got this message when i was first capturing and i worked around it by just putting the tape back in and giving it a new name. Now i really have to recapture these sequences and it is not letting me do it. There is no way to change a tape name here because it is asking for the specific tape that it originally captured from. Please help me.

Firstly, what Avid are you working on? I don't know any Avid Xpress, but I know Adrenaline.

Second, do you have any idea why those 3 frames go corrupted? I ran into batch importing problems when a flash would go off during a shoot. If it is a flash, you cannot capture I think something like a second or more before the flash but you can go a frame right after the flash.

You say you are batch capturing your sequences? Is that correct, or just batch capturing the parts that became corrupt? Because if it is the corrupt parts that are bringing you the problems, then you might have to go in and cut out the bad frames.

Other wise I would capture every part you can up until you get the error Exception: A drop frame etc, and then go back and capture that seperately. To do that you can bring up your Capture Device then drag in your clip that needs to be re-captured, this should produce the time code for the clip. Get you tape to the correct place on it, then turn OFF the TC button (in the same area as when you select V1, A1, A2, etc), then capture without time code. Only problem is if you have to re capture this you will have to do the same process.

Hopefully that helped, otherwise I just talked a lot for nothing. Good luck!

It sounds as though the tapes have both drop and non drop sources on them. A tape name needs to be unique and can only be drop or non drop in the system. This preserves the integrity of the metadata. Bt if users are not careful when logging or capturing, there are still ways to get into trouble.

When loading a tape for the first time, don't give it a tape name right away. Click CANCEL and shuttle the tape to the area you are capturing. Then give it a tape name. This guarantees that the drop/non drop is correct for the span you are capturing.

In your case, the system did capture when you changed tape names, you might want to shuttle to that part of the tape first before click rebatch capture - this also means one clip at a time, but it should get you through the trouble spots.

I tried shuttling to the other parts of the tape and it still gives me this error. Is there a way that i can just turn off the timecode so i don't have to spend hours trying to get this to work?

Korhanz20,
I dont think you have a corruption. Some time when you first insert a tape it may be past the or before the TC used in the captured clip. So try this. make sure your tape is well in the TC that was shot on, on the tape that is in for capture, By the way, what avid are you working on????. You may also want to manually shuttle the deck forward a bit, skip the present clip, and try again....

I work on Axp. and I get this sometime as well, I have to change my work space to something other than capture, and back again to clear this problem, and or turn on/off.. and check decks, to clear.

try one or all of the above....I have never come a cross a corruption issue with a avid seq, and I have been editing on avid when there was only Avid Video Resolution (AVR 1,2, or 3)

hope this helps

i am working w/ avid express pro 4.6, and i think i really have a corrupted file. The frames on the tape are fine and these three sequences were working fine until i copied some large file to the drive that i was using to capture, and it caused some kind of corruption in those video files. I just want to recapture all the footage that is used in those 3 sequences so i don't have to recapture and recut from scratch. Is there a way to just turn off the tc?

can you just capture the master clip instead of the SEQ???

can you "modify" the clips and give it a new source name????

just some thoughts

if i just recapture the master clip, how do i relink all of my old subclips used in the timeline to my new master clip?

I believe if you recapture the master clips, It will rebuild your SEQ. Remember the SEQ is made up of master clips, and sup clips are part of master clips. :)
