Major Problem!! Please help!

Hello there

I'm having a little issue exporting an omf file for our sound guy. I'm workin on an HD project and the first thing that I've heard is that there's no way that you can export an omf with HD and you need to use an Aaf (is this true?) which presents a problem because our audio guy's program doesn't support Aaf.

So some things that I've done to try and get around this:
1. Taking out all video tracks. Didn't work.
2. Transcoding all files into OMFs. Didn't work.

Didn't work didn't work didn't work. The problem might be, that since we had to sync external audio -- I'm working off of a group clip, so everytime it tells me I can't export an omf because I'm linking to or using an mxf... would that be the problem? group clip?

Anybody have any ideas around this? I'm losing my mind. Or would it make sense to tell my audio guy to suck it and find out a way to use an Aaf? haha LAKSJDHFLAKJSDFH.

Thanks in advance!
Ana

Just remembered another thing. Last year I exported an OMF file using HD footage.... so why the Hell is it different this time?
All I remember is that last project, they weren't "grouped clips" and this time they are...

GAK.

He says he's using "Cubase SX"... ??? I've never heard of this program. But what I'm thinking now is that Aaf is more industry standard than that cubase **** and I shouldn't be wasting 10 hours on this? haha.

I did some more research on the net and I STILL can't figure out why I can't export to omf. this error of "you're linked to or referencing an mxf" is really messing me up.

Right now, it looks like I'm going to have to recut all the audio in an SD project.

Hopefully there's something easier that I can do though? Does anyone know if I can ungroup clips without screwing up the sequence? So that the original audio will now be in the sequence and no longer linked to anything HD?

I can export OMF from Avid no problem. But if you are getting an error during export, here is a work around.

In Avid do a audio mixdown of all your dialogue tracks, then mixdown all of your effects/foley tracks. Go into your media drive where your projects media is stored and there will be a folder titled OMF Mediafiles. Open this up, all of your audio files are stored in here (even HD projects store mixdown and imported audio as OMF). Find the mixed down files and send them on thier way.

Wow thank you so much! Forgive my ignorance -- these audio mixdowns -- will they still save each file with a certain handle length and such? Is it literally like doing an omf export?

I just did some research on this audio mixdown, and I'm not seeing the difference between that and just exporting a wav file of the track? Does the mixdown include all the separate files?
