MAJOR MAJOR FS100 dropouts

mpalmer,
I thought you were able to re create the problem from time to time.

sorry to hear that. What I would do is talk to a supervisor. Offer to come to a local rep and spend some time recreating the problem. (or maybe even over web cam) and then if they don't comply or try to meet you half way. then get irate.
And if that fails. Just tell them that you will sell their product, you have documented everything that has taken place, (all correspondance) and after doing everything in your power to use their equipment and them not willing to work with you. that you will mount a campain to let everyone know of your experience. (this might get them to think that its best to take care of you than to lose customers. I mean this could end by you saying to everyone you know. Man I love this company. I will continue to do business with them and will recommend them to everyone. Or it could end with just the opposite)

And I guess you can ask a lawyer about lemon laws. and what your recourse is.

Hope that helps.

Any SD camera will look better in low light. HD requires more light.

Have you spoken with Matt at Focus yet? Since they have not actually seen the unit, it really is jumping the gun to speculate that they won't find anything. Work through the channels and get to a product manager. Let them inspect the unit. Then discuss remedies.

I have a job next week so I don't plan on sending in the FS unit before then. (Crosses fingers, toes, etc.)

I tested the setup for 3 hours last night, filling the FS HD twice with test material, and I detected not a single dropout. All home tests have now come up negative for dropouts. It's only when I'm on location that they seem to happen, which drives me crazy. Two nights in a row of dropouts tells me that something is fundamentally haywire with my setup, but what it is exactly, I have no idea.

I often could tell when I had dropouts in a clip because when I opened them as P2 imports in FCP they showed up with white screen at the end of the affected clips. In other words, for instance, 25 minutes of the dropout-filled clip and 4 minutes of white at the end. Have you had this happen, anybody, and how did you fix?

(FS Support has been completely great in responding to my questions. I like the product and the company, so I hope nobody gets too negative an impression of them from my words.)
