Major HVX200 Digital Recording/Playback Error

Hi there, I'm new to the forums, but I've been using the HVX200 for about a year now.

Recently, I had my camera repaired after my LCD screen broke, and I've recorded and played back about 40 minutes of footage on my P2 card since I got it back without any problems.

However, today I recorded some footage at 720/30PN and 1080i/60p along with 720/30p and I observed the same problem. In about 1/2 the footage I recorded onto my P2 card, the screen is filled with green pixels. I am baffled by this problem and will use my warranty if no one has any insight.

Heres some background about the problem:
-Pananosic HVX200
-Recently Repaired LCD screen
-Recording on 16gb P2 card
-All frame rates/settings seem to have the same problem
-Screen is filled with green pixels in about 1/2 of footage.
-Pixelated footage appears on on-camera playback, and when exported to Final Cut

Regular Footage

Affected Footage

I would appreciate anyone's insight into this problem.

Try this

If you have the raw p2 data try using a demo of Raylight.

If that works without showing the bad pixels your issue is the conversion to quicktime by fcp.

If you have the same problem it may be your card.

Try a different p2 card as well.

Damn, the Raylight thing didn't work. It's not an issue with Final Cut; anything I record is filled with green pixels. I don't have another P2 card, perhaps I should order one.

"Green Pixel problem" for Raleighl

"Green Pixel problem" for Raleighl

Yes, I too have had a similar problem, after downloading to a portable external hard drive and then transferring this to another external "project" drive, connected to my computer. The weird pixelations lasted for about 2 seconds. My camera was set to "Verify transferred material. So now here's the possible good and the possible bad. The bad first: if the camera verifies all the information being transferred from the camera to the hard drive then it would seem that the information that is relayed from the camera to the P2 is being garbled and recorded incorrectly on to the P2. The verify circuit looks at this and interprets this is "correct" as recieved from the P2 (garbled). Now here is the good: I have noticed that the slightest and I do mean the slightest movement of the power cable and firewire cable between my small external drive and my camera causes interuption of the drive and hence a verification failure. I tried a test: I erased the files in question from my drive and re-sent them to the same drive, being sure to be at least within binocular distance of the camera so I did'nt inadvertently jiggle the damn cord! and wha la after re-sending the files to my 2nd ext hard drive and carefully avoiding cable movement here as well,(and viewing them in Premiere Pro) they were fine. So what is to be learned from this? - (Update) I have just viewed the file in question on the camera LCD (thought I had erased it), so the pixelation must have occured during transfer of the file to my master drive - cable was moved or exposed to static electricity during the transfer! I have left my first ideas/observation above in case you have completely ruled out cable/connection problems. I would like to know your thoughts about my post, even though I seemed to have figured out the problem. Thanks

Broken LCD also

Broken LCD also

Hey there Raleighl, i noticed how you said you had a broken LCD.
Mine will not work because a kid fell on my camera :(
But the screen itself did not break nor did the part attached to the actual camera. I just cannot view in the LCD screen. Was that the case with yours? What was your situation and how much was it to get it repaired?

THANKS
Mike

Raleigh, I am having the same problem. I am getting the pixelation and noise. I can hear the noise during recording and I see the pixelation on playback. Strangely enough if I record using tape I don't get the problem. Of course I do not want to use tape. I too need help solving this problem.

Hi,

If this is how the footage looks while playing off of the P2 card, it looks like something is wrong with the camera. Contact the service center that had it and see if they have any insight.

Off hand looks like a codec board gone bad, if it is on the P2 Card this way.

Best,

jan
