WTF would you want to use a remote when you're hand held, surely your hands are both supporting and operating the camera?
 
The remote can operate focus and iris a touch smoother than handling the camera itself, like an electronic follow focus, especially if you're using some manner of two-handled shoulder rig. That's why.
 
That's the whole point..if I want to be able to adjust the focus while both hands are occupied I need to be able to attach the controller to the handle, or hopefully the set up is balanced enough to the point where I don't NEED it. I'm not sure, but regardless, the controller is going to be useful.
