Maintaining My Baby

When is general maintenance necessary? I just completed a job where I shot eleven 60min tapes through my DVX100. I want to make sure I keep my camera at peak performance so it doesn’t break down on my next shoot. Is there a scmatic some ware I can get for my engineer friends to maintain my baby.

1) Is there a maintenance check list?
2) How much head wear does the “Head Cleaner Tape” put on the heads? Is it better to give the camera to my engineer friend and have him clean the heads manually?
3) Do you recomend sending the camera out for cleaning?
4) How much will it cost?

Use the head cleaner once a month, tops. Most head cleaner will cause corrosion on tape heads if used too much. I don't know if this is the case with the panny head cleaning cassette, but i'm pretty sure it is.

If you can afford it, I'd recommend having your camera professionally cleaned once a year. We use Audio Video Corp. out of Albany, NY.
