Mainconcept PAL-NTSC alternative/workaround?

Hi. I originally posted in Vegas and Output forums but no replies ...

I have a problem outputing from Vegas 25P PAL project to NTSC MPEG-2 for DVD. It's fine outputtiing to PAL MPEG, but using the Mainconcept encoder for this PAL-NTSC conversion I get nasty shadowing/blurring on any motion in the frame. It seems there is some kind of 25fps to 29.7fps phasing problem.

However, rendering the same clips from Premiere Pro 1.5 using the Adobe encoder (is it Mainconcept too?) the problem does not occur and motion is smooth. I can't use it though because the transcode is rubbish even on the highest settings - complete mush compared to the Vegas output. So it's not a generic 25P PAL to NTSC problem.

Does anyone know of another encoder that would do the job without this 'phasing' problem? Or indeed, does anyone know how to eliminate it from the workflow I have already?

advice much appreciated.

You should disable resampling on all video clips in your project. This should take care of the shadowing/blurring, however the motion may not be as smooth.

Thanks Neophase. I'll try that.

However, I've been hunting about and downloaded a trial copy of TMPGEnc 3.0 and so far it's clear that as well as getting no PAL-NTSC phasing, the output is much better than Mainconcept. I'm going to look at Procoder as well ...
