Mailing back Metabones to China?

I have the first batch of the Mark II and also the first batch of the Speed Booster. Both with first generation firmware. Ancient.

I've been just running it in green mode, but it would be nice to have it permanently on advanced mode.

Any of you mail back your Metabones to China? How was your experience with Metabones the company?

How long did the mailing there and back to the USA take? I would be shipping from Los Angeles.

My adapters are working well, so I'm almost like, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." But yeah, it would be nice to have 1/8 f-stop increments instead of the 1/3 and also seeing the focus info and telephoto graph would be nice.

Do any of you have a Phone # for Metabones? It's unlisted (probably on purpose).

Thanks for any input.

Did you mail it back Martin? Or are you just going to keep it the way it is. I'm pretty much on Green Mode only and it seems to work fine.

Im just keeping them. I actually have two of the normal adapter, in case a return. But it is still a hassle.

I've sent my adapters back to Metabones for firmware upgrades several times. In all cases, the turn around took about 3 weeks. I've never had a problem, just followed the procedure on their website.

@ Cuervo, how much did it cost you to ship to Hong Kong? Not sure if it's a mistake, but FedEx said $95 from LA to Hong Kong. That seems a bit high.

@ MartinG: Are you just using it in Green Mode (which I do) or are you switching to Advanced Mode every time you switch lens / turn on-off?

Not sure if they'll do this for everyone, but when I had issues (before I switched to Nikon glass) with a firmware, he let me pay for a new replacement and then refunded the money when he received mine back. But this was back when v2 was brand new and I was basically exchanging new-for-new. Not sure if you can email Metabones and see if they'll do an advance replacement.

Gene, Yeah, depending on how much you insure it for, that sounds about right! A few trips over there and you might as well buy a new one with the right firmware...HAH. Most of the time, I use "Advanced Mode". Occasionally, there are some strange and sudden shifts in aperture due to processing errors in the adapter. In these cases, sometimes it helps to go to "green mode". BTW, the new Mark IV Speedbooster has firmware update-able by the user.

Hey Gene, I also have the original Speedbooster. PreOrdered mine before they came out. I have sent it back twice for firmware updates. I had to do it the last time to get it communicating with my a new Tamron 70-200mm EF with VC and it does work now so totally worth it. Also, it seems to be working with my A7s so far as well but my testing on that has been a little limited. I sent mine from Florida and it cost $75 to send it there with insurance, got it back in 4 weeks both times. Alex was who I communicated with via email to get everything worked out. I did have to message him again to find out that the operation was done and heading back my way. I wanna say it's $25 you have to send them first as well so they can send it back to you. So....about $100 both times.

It seems like the Metabones v.4 smart adapter finally has user updatable firmware?
does anyone know how long ago the v2 speedbooster came out and when/if they are planning a new version?

with all the issues you read about regarding the adapters, having one you don't have to send to china to update seems very handy ;)

Yeah, I'm kind of thinking the same thing, especially since Cuervo mentioned that his Green Mode seems to be a little more solid than Advanced Mode. I guess Green Mode it is and an extra hundred dollars in my pocket.

I'm having an issue with my speedbooster and sent them an e-mail. How long did it take for you to hear back?
