it shows how these guys used magnets to flip their lcd's image upside-down for framing with their 35mm adaptor. can using the magnets effect the camera or the tape in any way?

Considering tape is a magnetic media I'd have to say it could most definately be affected by magnets. How strong the magnets are and how long the exposure would probably determine the overall damage. It looks like their little magnet is just powerful enough to alter signal flow from LCD and probably was a calculated trick. But in general I'd keep magnets far away from DVX and tape

Some flipout LCD viewfinders (used to)use small magnetic switches to change the top/down setting. A small external magnet does the switching job without fully rotating the LCD.
