hi all,

i haven't installed ML on mark III yet...i have a question before doing so. right now, i'm primarily interested in having it on camera for audio level feature, but don't necessarily want to shoot RAW.

can i still shoot in factory 1080.24 format, while using audio levels from ML?

thanks.

But you already have audio lvls build in the 5D3.....

i do...but the meter only stays on screen for about 10 seconds, before disappearing. and then i have to hit quick button
again to check levels. and i'd like to have levels showing on monitor all the time.

or am i missing something? is there a way to show levels all the time?

I find it so odd that "Magic Lantern" has become almost synonymous with RAW recording. It is so much more than that one little feature and so much more useful on Canon cameras than people think.

I use my 5dmkiii levels all the time during filming. I notice if you have it on AUTO it won't show up but on the setting M or C1, C2 and C3 it shows up during recording. I did a very quick test with both the 5dmkiii and the monitor attach to the 5dmkiii for you - this is what you should be getting with your camera;

Whether you're you're going to be using the raw feature or not, Magic Lantern is in my opinion an essential part of Canon DSLRs, at least for me. Raw is just one feature. Now everytime I use a Canom without ML I feel it's completely crippled and much harder to use.

Some of the feautres like the live waveform monitor is something I can't live withoug for setting exposure, and after using the ML Digic peaking + Coloir peaking I almost CAN'T set focus without them with the normal firmware, even with magnification. It just makes focusing miles easier. plus zebras, makes you carry one less device (intervalomefer) in your bag, gives you the ability to have a picture style/LUT for monitoring and vieweing and expsoire while when you hit record it switches to flat, it's just an essential piece of software with no risk.

Does adjusting bitrate on 5d3 1.2.3 need h264.ini and where to get it?
(Should go shoot tomorrow and not enough mem cards for raw...)
