Magic Lantern enables 14-bit RAW CinemaDNG on 5D

Also the camera always default to SD card every time I restart it. Any way to change that?
I haven't figured out a way to change it, but I did flip the write protect tab thingy on the SD card so that the camera will warn you that the card is write protected...that at least saves me from wasting a shot on the SD card instead of CF.

I am going insane with this... why is the raw2dgn not working with the files i shoot? :badputer:

Erm it might have something to do with this being pre-alpha software, you're a crash test dummy like the rest of us so don't expect not to get injured.

For those complaining about the SD card default: does that also happen if there's no card in the SD slot? And why do you need one there? Audio?

Super weird- I've been testing the raw hard all week and it's been flawless, then today on a real shoot it decides it doesn't want to record more than a few frames, I checked to make sure it was recording to the right slot and I was using Lexar 1000x cards. Oh well, guess I just need to reinstall ML and see if that fixes it.

what version/date you been testing hard hunter?

I was on June 6th because it was working great for me- I *did* let a friend take some still pictures with my camera yesterday but he didn't use ML and the dial was left on M- I wonder if something got changed by accident somewhere during that.

Try to check the canon menu in the liveview if preview was moved to stills and not movie as this affects ML recording.

FYI I am testing jun 16th build already, and everyday prior, jun 6th at the rate of development would be considered quite old.

There are new features and fixes implemented, like framing in crop mode has been off centered and I bugged them to have it tweaked and jun 16th build is now close to spot on in crop mode. I am using mkII by the way.

Yes! I am counting on you to open the doors for us Mark II guys. Pinoy Power

Not sure if this has been said anywhere but it is true for me. if I have photo mode on large raw it somehow takes all buffer memory away from being able to shoot in ML. When I switch it back to small JPg all is back to normal when shooting ML. I know this for sure because I had just finished testing 4 cards and they ALL were flawless. Then I tested the largest raw photo 1 min after that for a different reason and left it on. Then all four dropped frames after a few seconds of shooting ML. Switched it off and all four were fine again.

As one of the steps needed in shooting raw video, based on the current builds, raw STILLS should be OFF in Canon menu, Set JPEG to either Large or Small. There is no "official" documentation yet as ML raw is still changing every night so this "requirement" might change in the dot version releases.

There is now a June 18 nightly build for mkII, but for those using ML raw already in a production and needs the crop mode use Jun 16th NB as a1ex is still figuring out some pink cast in crop mode.

I tried to google it, but does RAW and FPS override make it possible to record higher quality, like full res RAW. Would be nice to not kill the shutterlife for getting timelapses. What is the slowest FPS and highest resolution?

I have a 5d mk3, and don't have time to do ML for todays sunrise, but curious to know.

FPS allows the 5DmkII to have any framerate from .5 to 32 FPS and the mkIII any framerate up to 60 FPS. Lower framerates allow for lower ISOs thus cleaner image in low light conditions. FPS is independent from the RAW Video module.

The Raw video module allows the mkII in 1x mode to capture 1880 x 1250 max but currently up to 116 frames only in 24p. In crop 3x mode however you can go to 2152x1078 max at 177 frames only.
In the mkIII 1x mode 1920 x 1280 max and in 3x crop mode 3584 x 1320 .

HOWEVER if you use FPS over ride like 1 FPS You will have stable continuous recording in 1x or 3x crop mode untill your card is full. :)

I just finished directing/editing/shooting (damn these small budgets!) a musicvideo with the 5dIII and I happened to use RAW- in about 4 shots. Can anyone spot them? ;)

* nice musicvideo
* if I had to guess, I would say: slider shot when boy gets out of school, and side shot of boy riding bike by sea; but I don't think I'll get it right, it's really close
* sharpness throughout the video is as expected from 5D3 H.264 video; not bad, definitely good enough for youtube, but I think there's probably a bigger difference when you watch it on your computer (unless you softened the RAW clips!)
* when I switched my T2i for a NEX-5N, I started seeing a difference between my original videos and the vimeo version; with the T2i, they were identical, I always thought vimeo was beyond awesome; with the NEX, I can clearly see the difference; I don't have a lot of experience with 5D3 H.264 video, but I know that the image from the 5D3-RAW is a lot sharper and more detailed than the image from the NEX

Has anyone figured out how to use ML raw on 5d3 with an external monitor? The raw frame guides are always shifted over about 1/3 way over to the left. Maybe I need to adjust something?

Hunter,

That's still a quirk thats not given priority by the devs for the moment, so what I do is mask the ext monitor the old fasioned way, you can use tape or in my case i draw lines over clear acetate showing different ratios and tape over the screen.

To remove the off center white rectangle from the ext monitor choose ML grayscale in Preview within RAW Video Menu. It will give you a color HD preview since grayscale also don't work via ext monitor. For now.
