Magic Lantern enables 14-bit RAW CinemaDNG on 5D

Nice work as always. Resolve isn't looking so bad now. I guess it's just the difference between looking at a basket on a table compared to some filmic images. I'll give Resolve a crack after I'm done cutting this narrative scene. It's sure to go horribly wrong, better make it an abstract piece so no one notices I can't grade in Resolve for s#it. :cheesy:

You off the sharpness train now Kholi? About bloody time.

Hey hunter, could u direct me to the link explaining updating to latest hack. Do I replace modules or start from scrach. Im still on may 18th

that basket on the table paid me $12000 for 2 1/2 days work. And after my hour nap on set I decided to load the hack and test it onsite. I also invite anyone here to shoot a scene and take the same dng frame into LR and R9 and grade them as close as I was able to get the "basket" on the table and post your results. THe reason I used the "basket" as that it had it all. Fine print, primary colors, a light against the wall to look for roll off, diagonal lines, texture and contrast.

Anyway, nice shots you got there Hunter. Looks great.

I just upgraded to the June 3rd one today- Is that the best one at the moment Squig?

Try the 6th. so far its ok. some improvements are internal, for memory allocation.

Also try to follow the updates on raw2dng.exe versions as some version handle vertical banding better than others. The May31st version for raw2dng semm to work well for some.

Right now a1ex is posting different variations to test which handles the vertical banding problem best.

Resolve learning curve is steep, but there's a good reason why most post houses are invested in it. Just dive in.

Also, about sharpening, the default 20 in acr is just way too much. And I find R9s sharpening to be more pleasant for motion picture. Hunter's material is as sharp as the footage likes to be before it starts to look bad. Perfect amount.

Hunter! Gimme dat LUT! The reverse engineered R709 might be something I can try with Blackmagic as well.

Have you tried an ACES setup yet?

Resolve is worth the effort learning. I have not found a IDT in aces that seems great for ML footage out of the box. I have found davinci YRGb to have better immediate results. I use aces for A-CAM CDNG and its really perfect.

I'm using June 2nd(cd467e1) I had a strange freeze with June 3 that spooked me so I went back to June 2nd. There's been a bit of a write speed drop since then which I noticed the devs are now trying to fix.

I wasn't dissing basket shooting (especially for that money). I just meant the flaws in the transcode are a lot less noticeable in a scene with moving images. Is that the purple halo bug in the sun?

I don't have time to get my head around Resolve right now, I've got a feature to shoot.

Like I said before, sharpening level depends on your lens. take those panasonic lenses for instance compared to a vintage prime, huge difference. You can judge for yourself when I finish cutting this narrative scene. The default looks completely natural to me with the Pentax-A, tack sharp but not digitised. The closeups on the actress look great.

Resolve really is not as hard as some say it is. Just dig in, watch some youtube vids of the program and find your way. But first learn how to set up R9, then how to operate.

Squig. I digged around trying to find the latest builds of the ML and just could not find it. Could you make a thread that links to some of them (the ones you think work fine) here on DVX?

No, that purple is chromatic aberration which LR can resolve (get it).

There's been some positive feedback on todays build https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B7QlH_BH2m32bktUeU9rOTdGbmM&usp=sharing I don't have time to test it, I'm gonna be busy cutting this narrative scene for the next couple of days.

Here's the 2nd of June, a good vintage https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B7QlH_BH2m32VWhXNUJkUWdiVEk&usp=sharing

The daily builds are posted here http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5413.0

Kholi and friends, Here is the LUT I made (beta version) as well as resolve workflow tutorial on how to use it:
https://vimeo.com/67970827

Be sure to read how to use it first because it wont look correct unless you follow the instructions, Let me know what you think! I will keep on working on it in the meantime. Cheers!

Hey Hunter, what build ML are you using?

Squiq, I'm messing around with todays build and latest RAWmagic and looks like they are zeroing in on the banding. Still seeing pink highlights though.
