After a month of development and testing, Magic Lantern 0.1.6 is finally ready! Some of the new features:

* Custom cropmarks bitmap file
* Live histogram while recording
* Time remaining estimate indicator
* Automated focus pulls
* Focus stacking
* HDR exposure bracketing
* Lens data (hyperfocal distance, DOF, etc)
* Cleaner, multi-level menus that timeout automatically
* Audio monitoring can be turned off during clip review
* Internal mic can be used (must enable audio.mic-power=1 in config)
* Output audio volume control
* Configuration can be saved into magiclantern.cfg

It is still beta, but lots of usability bugs have been fixed since the 0.1.5 release. There is new documentation being written and new cropmarks files will be available soon.

As before, please review the Frequently Asked Questions. Bug reports can be entered in the issue tracker.

Good luck!

He's not just a smart guy...but apparently quite a rock climber too. We've got footage taken by Trammel last week whilst belaying down a rather tall cliff. Someday Trammel when you're really famous, I'll hand over my 5D and casually mention it was "enhanced" by the man himself :-)

Dennis, I think he's already 'really famous'. I bet Canon surely knows who he is :thumbsup:

Paypal donation sent in. Thank you for making this camera more usable with each release. It was a bit scary jumping into shooting video with a DSLR but Magic Lantern and the latest Canon firmware has made it a lot of fun.

So I am a noob with all this DSLR stuff what does this thing exactly do? is it safe? how do you make it work?

I am leaning towards getting a 5D so I am just curious on learning as much as I can.

I've read his FAQ and 5D only films for 12 minutes?

It would also be cool to have a video tutorial how to do this stuff..I can read and read and still process slow as heck, if i visually see something done it's better for me :)

thanks guys

Actually it's very simple. Load the files to your flash card (they cannot be in any folders...just directly on the card), and select "Update Firmware" on the camera's menu. It doesn't actually update the firmware but rather loads the code into the camera's memory. When you cycle the camera power, your camera "forgets" and returns to standard operation. Read Trammel's disclaimer before you do anything.

Exactly Christian and Juan. :beer:

I'm not completely sure if you all ;-) have an accurate idea about the meaning of what Tramm has been offering to these communities. I have no other touch with this project. I wish I could help. Hope others may do the same, not only taking advantage of the firmware download or features request. :)

I finally took the plunge and installed magic lantern, I felt like a real DV rebel when I saw the new display. I'm only using the zebras and histogram but I have a 7" external monitor with a HDMI-VGA adapter so I hope Tramm can sort out the external monitoring issues.
