Glass: Magic Cam lens adapters

I know all about m43 adapters but EF is a whole new deal for me.

Any thoughts on adapting Nikon F, Nikon G, Leica R, Contax mounts onto the magic cam.

Are there other mounts that work? I know you can use Canon FD but there is a optic involved.

Any brands to look for?

PL compatibility

PL compatibility

http://kcwtechnica.com/shop/pl-mount...7d-5d-mark-ii/
these types of adapters are limited in the PL pilot length they accept. Basically angenieux zooms old cooke zooms work.
Most primes (Cooke, UPs, MPs, SPs SSs, CPs, RPPs, UOs, Illuminas, Xenars-did I miss something:tongue:) WILL NOT WORK.
I also don't see Zeiss changing anything on the CP line up since they are making killing on sales of their EF mounts for CP lenses:evil:

BTW you can buy equivalent PL->EOS adapters on Ebay for about $120

Actually, the pilot length is only because of the mirror I believe. There's no mirror here.

I'm going to check with someone who will know exactly how this could work. My only concern would be backfocus.

The pilot length limitation is due to the ID of the EF mount itself.
You are confused about the type of interference. the (DSLR) reflex mirror interferes with the glass on some PL lenses- not the pilot.
These are two separate issues.
And yes the mirror interference is eliminated with the BM camera because, well, there is no mirror:thumbsup:

I went through this when we made the DSLR adapters 2-3 years ago.
Now I can share:smile:

Even though all my glass is Nikon F mount, my ideal BMCC has a m4/3 mount. That way, someone like Optitek (ru listening, Jacek?) might be motivated to make my dream m4/3 to F adapter. This would have a geared or levered iris ring so it would take 90 degrees or so to go from full open to closed. Gives full, non-stepped iris control for G and no need to de-click AIS lenses. Optitek pro-lok collar and a foot with 1/4-20 hole would be icing on the cake. Adjustable length (via shims or ?) to set backfocus would make it totally pro.

KCW adapters are overpriced. I use this on Canons and it works very well with all Angenieuxes, great seller and great build quality. The bottom support is crucial, the EF mount is not strong enough for a big cine zoom.

Optitek is right about the issue with primes, it's not the mirror but rather the OD of the rear of the lens does not fit into the bore of the adapters - the EF mount ID is too narrow to adapt to PL primes without making the adapter too thin and weak to be useful. Ciecio7 makes replacement mounts that work for primes on Canon DSLRs, perhaps he will make one for the Blackmagic.

Angenieux Optimos with the supported ciecio7 PL adapter are currently the best lenses for the EF mount Blackmagic, hands down.

What you are describing is a $1500-2000 adapter.
I'll do it for 20 minimum orders with deposit commitments.
I already have most of the pieces...
Of course BMD has to come up with M4/3 mount on their camera first......

Well, they need to give a date on the m4/3 version first, so we have plenty of time to think about it. Iris adjustment with long throw is the most important innovation to me. Would you be interested in making the simplest version with just a standard F mount and long-throw iris ring?

If you're a no-budgeteer, couldn't you get a long-throw iris ring by bolting a follow-focus gear to the iris ring on a NovoFlex? Or a long zoom pin?

Great, I was going to post the same link, but I'm glad you already had. Here's another lens mount compatibility general cross-reference table (not just EF) that is pretty handy, and includes some of the newer mounts like micro four thirds, Sony E, and Sony A (unfortunately does not include some of the older mounts like Olympus OM): http://www.similaar.com/foto/lensmount/lensmount.html

If you're a no-budgeteer, couldn't you get a long-throw iris ring by bolting a follow-focus gear to the iris ring on a NovoFlex? Or a long zoom pin?

You could, you'd still want to have the ability to adjust the actual lens iris: unfortunately, any flaws that the lens has at any aperture are exaggerated with another set of blades behind it. I've got one that I used for a while before snagging a Canon Rebel body... what I thought was my Sigma 20/1.8 being a horrible copy was just using the iris adapter.

Also, depending on the rear element's projection area, you may get vignetting on certain glass.

I had no idea there were adapters with their own built-in iris.

I, and I believe Barry (since he referred to to Novoflex adapter), was referring to m4/3 to F adapters that have a ring with a linkage that engages the aperture lever on Nikkors. The ring (or lever or knob or screw) on the adapter just operates the iris built into the lens. The problem I'm trying to overcome is that with the direct linkage on these adapters there is about a 10-15 degree throw from full open to closed.

Urgh... it's going to cost me 2/3 the cost of the camera itself just to get EF-mounts for my new CP.2s :furious3: it's an expensive business the filmmakingy stuff.

Stupid question: There's no way to attach a Micro 4/3 lens to this camera, is there? Even as a dumb adapter that has no electronics in it?

Nope, not possible. Only lenses you can use (as a practical matter) are Canon lenses, or Nikon manual-only lenses.
Yeah, that's what I figured. *grumble grumble*

I'm seriously looking at switching from Micro 4/3 to Canon lenses just to be able to use this camera. I just hate to give up my Voigtlander...
