A fellow filmmaker told me he was against using a program in post, like magic bullet. He said it ends up degrading the hd image. I think it looks great, but he insisted you should do your coloring in camera? Anybody want to ad to this comment? Any cons?
Its not about degrading the image, but the program is a resource hog on my C2D machines, and theres , IN MY EXPERIENCE as an owner, nothing you cant do in FCP itself that magic bullet cant do.
there are many things you can do in post that just can't be done in cam.
most people don't like magic bullet because it's been overused on not so good footage and they are sick of seeing it. also, it's not often tweaked and is generally just a preset slapped on footage.
If there is something pressing I have to get out the door (short duration) then MB is a great starting place for a look. Tweak it out to look original, and there you go.
If I am extensively grading then MB doesn't do it for me.
