Magic Bullet 2 kicks tuckus!! But....

...only if you have one of the video cards suggested on redgiantsoftware.com. The other day I did a black diffusion on a 10 second clip and it took nine minutes, and said to myself, this crap aint worth it.

Now some people consider MB to be way overused, over hyped, overdone, a crutch and so on. I can see that, they are great starting points, and they help me to customize my own looks. But the render speed SUCKED!

OK, back on track... so the other night I read the posts considering whether or not I should get the $99 upgrade. Since I have an Nvidia 6600GT, I went for it.

It was definitely worth it! That same 10sec clip now took one minute to render, and the 5 minute project I have from a while back took like 20 minutes as opposed to the 4 hours like last time. The GPU rendering is awesome and I am totally glad I got it.

Now the artifact reduction is another plus. It is apparently designed for cleaning up chroma work, but I used it on some noisy footage and it did reduce some of the noise without (to my eye) reducing the picture quality. It didn’t completely get rid of it (obviously) but it took a noticeable amount to muddy red chunks out from the dark areas. The red noise is still there, but its not as obvious.

So for anyone who uses MB1 and has a supported Video Card, the $99 upgrade is really worth it.

my 2cents :)

A 6600 at the least.

On the red giant site it recommends a 6800 or 7800.

It claims realtime for a 7800 but i gotta see that to believe it.

Hmmm...I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro-128 card. Now, I spent a good amount for it, but this card is 3 years old. Is this card listed?

Yea I probably wouldn’t expect real time either, but even with the bare minimum video card like I have, the time difference in rendering is awesome, even if their render times are "embellished"
