Macro shooting

I'm starting a project where I need to do some very close macro work. The subject is fly tying and some of the hooks are very small, approximately 1/2" (12mm) across. I've tried to see how close I can get with the DVX but unfortunately I have to be too close to be able to properly tie the fly. Plus it makes lighting a little harder. I'd like to be able to have a small hook like that fill at least 1/3 of the width of the screen. This is going to be an ongoing project so I have no problem purchasing the required gear.

Also, I have a lot of Nikon lenses including an f/2.8 90mm macro which works great on my SLR. Would a 35mm adapter give me the ability to take advantage of the macro lens?

I have tryed my macro 55mm nikkor on a m2 once and it worked great, very clean images, though my macro is a 3.5, so we really have to light it well. but yes, macros work on 35mm adapters.

Why not just get a diopter adapter? You have such a small DOF with macro work anyway, no sense in making it tougher with the 35mm adapter.

Ring lights can make macro shooting much easier. There's not as many resources out there for video, but you can research macro still photography and for the most part it all applies.

Although a 35mm adapter may not be the most graceful way to do macro work, they do lead to another good solution. All these 35 adapters need a macro lens to focus in so close to the ground glass. You could go on redrockmicro.com and just purchase one of the macros they use for their adapters. I've used their stuff for macro work and it all turned out great.

Anyways, basically what professorU is saying. It's a diopter adapter. I know that redrocks are pretty pricey though, so good luck finding a cheap solution.
