Macro Function?

Hey friends! Im one step before buying a DVX 200. My first "real" Cam was the beloved HPX 301. Still in use after almost 8 years! Also have a Sony X70 and like it, but my heart cries for the panasonic "MoJo" ;-)

What i do often with both cams is a focus transition from macro to almost infinity. HPX 301 with the manual macro ring and the x70 has some kind of "auto changing" from macro to normal when turn the focus ring, which works really good.

So my question is: Can i do that with the DVX 200? Or works the DVX 200 only in macro OR normal mode?

For example: Focus a flower 20cm in front of the lens and then turn the focus ring and focus a 100m away tree?

Thank you!

DVX200 Operating Instructions Vol. 2, page 40, chapter 'Recording', section 'Using the Zoom' states: "When [FOCUS MACRO] is set to [OFF], subjects at a distance of approximately 1.0 m (3.3 feet) to infinity can be brought into focus. When [FOCUS MACRO] is set to [ON] and the zoom position is at the W end, subjects at a distance of approximately 10 cm (3.93 q) to infinity can be brought into focus."

Thank you!

That`s what i hoped for.. Probably that is simple phisycs and i`m not understanding :-)

So maybe a question to someone who understands: Why it is necessary to set (MACRO) to (ON)? Why not always (ON) like on the X70?

Feel free to awnser, my basic question is already awnsered. I`m just curious now.

Because the focus throw is different in macro. If you always have macro on then it will take longer to rack from one extreme to the other. Like on photo stills telephoto lenses that have an auto focus limiter for closer or further away subjects. Same thing. It's less area for the zoom to operate in. That's helpful for both auto focus and manual focus.

Thank you again!

I guess someting like that. And as a HPX 301 user with the manual macro ring, i´d should be able to imagine the correlation between normal and macro.. But it`s more guessing than knowing the exact process in the lens...

By the way, thank you again and we can "close" that thread now! :-)
