I've run into a situation where my camera is unable to maintain focus except at certain focal lengths, so I'm sending it in under the Mack Repair warranty. Has anyone had experience with them before?

Does it usually take a long time? Do they do a good job?

Thanks!

I'd like to hear how this goes, as I also got an extended Mack warranty and would like to know if I got ripped off or not... I just don't want to wait for my camera to break to find out.

word. I think they are sound. I've just never (fortunately) had to deal with it. My main concern is am I down and out for 2 weeks or 6-8?

That I couldn't tell you. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes at least 4 weeks, most things like this move very slowly unfortunately.

I used them for my DVX camera prior to selling to make sure everything was in tip / top shape, and the fact that the warranty was getting ready to lapse.

They're not bad to work with, but be very specific as to what you want them to work on since it will take a few weeks. I recall mine being 2 - 3.

Would be nice if you could buy an extended warranty solely from Panasonic, they're awesome when it comes to fixing stuff under their warranties.

I've used them for years, I think where possible they tend to try and make deals with manufacturers, in the past I've had very good experiences with them, it seemed they have great diagnostic equipment and quick repair considering.
Frankly I have saved many dollars on the cost of repairs because I got their warranty. In one case I probably would have tossed the camera.
The bad news is almost 4 years left on the warranty for the HVX I'm thinking about selling.

I'm thinking about selling mine too. But I still make a fair amount of money with it. I hope to get it back soon as I am supposed to be shooting a feature with it!

Mack replaced the LCD on a Sony handycam for me. They did include a little note that said they suspected the display had been misused............... but they still replaced it. For consumer cams they seem OK.

I wouldn't count on them fixing it quickly though!!!!! You best get a replacement cam if you have a schedule.

good luck

I have had Mack warranties for my Canon cameras in the past and have never had any significant issues. How they handled warranty service for my Canons was, they'd either send my camera to the Canon service center in NJ or have me send it directly there. Then Canon would asses what service was needed and request an OK from Mack at which point Canon would perform the work and send the camera back to me.

There were occasions where I had to make a phone call to prompt faster movement in the process. Don't hesitate to complain or make pleas for faster turnaround. Mack was always great at pushing things along for me.
