MacBook Pro vs Power Mac G5 (DVCPROHD)

No surprises there. For me at least, coming from various PC's using Sorenson Squeeze, Compressor on my MacBook just beats the pants off of the PC's in H.264 encoding, and it looks generally better too. I squeezed this one out last night from 720/24p, and I was in awe... (beware, more cat video)

This is fantastic news! I was going to buy a G5 last year when they announced the Intel transition. So, I've been waiting for the Intel Desktops. However, my G4/550 TiBook is seriously ancient, and I can definitely justify the purchase. MBP, here I come! Thanks for the link, IOL.

Connect the HVX camera via firewire in 1394 device mode, or use the P2 store, or any external firewire drive that's been formatted by the HVX to function as a P2 storage device. All of these can dump clips to a MacBook (as well as other Macs) via firewire.
 
It's only fair to point out that they did not specify what G5 2GHZ dual processor box they used. There were several revisions with the oldest going back to 2003. Even if they used the very latest one, you are comparing a 2300.00 G5 to a 3100.00 MBP.
