Macbook Pro i5 able to handle AVCHD rendering on FCP?

I got rid of my 3.06 duo core Imac because rendering was a pain...so I bought a i7 PC with 12gb of DDR3 ram. Now im wanting to go back to FCP so im thinking of buying a macbook pro i5 17" with 4gb ram for $1400. Would this give me the same loooong rendering problems? I know the new i7 runs smooth but haven't heard too much on the i5.

Sorry i couldn't get your point while you just buy 12gb ram core i7 pc and looking for lower config mac? And do you think it will handle better than pc? If all of these just because of fcp, then try to render it on your monster pc with cs5?And plan what you can add to your pc with that 1400$, goshhh

What rendering are you referring to?

Once avchd is converted to pro res, they only possible rendering is multiple streams, or heavy fx.
