Hi, dear all,
I am using a MacBook Pro 13 inches and want to use it to read and transfer my P2 files on location. As the computer even doesn't have a expresscard slot, what kind of adapter you would suggest me to buy in order to complete this task. Also, will it be very slow?
Thanks in advance.

AFAIK no such device exists. P2 cards are cardbus/aka PCMCIA format, and the only products (aside from PCMCIA slot-equipped computers themselves) that will read P2 cards are the dedicated Panasonic devices (which are very expensive) and the Duel adapter, which requires an expresscard slot. The only other way I know of to get data from a P2 device (like an HVX200) into a 13" MBP is via a direct firewire or USB connection to the camera.

The next most cost-effective solution might be to buy a second laptop that has a PCMCIA slot. Powerbook G4s (but again, not the 13" models) have them, and are readily available on places like eBay for $500 or so. Or you could sell the 13" and get a 15" MBP (but not the newest ones) that has an expresscard slot, and then get the Duel adapter.

Otherwise, there's no easy solution for you that I know of...

No USB or FW p2 card readers have ever been offered or developed.

The Lenovo 10e series, I believe, runs about $300.00 at The Shack and will accept the Addonics EC/34 adapter.

The new macbook pros are about the worst choice for P2 offloading stations.

Your choices are to use the camera as a reader through the USB port, or to buy a PCD20.

Frankly, I'd ditch the idea of offloading to the MBP and instead go with the Lenovo netbook option. It'll cost you about 1/7 as much as the PCD20, and you can offload to external hard disks that'll plug directly into your Mac for editing.
