MacBook for Transferring EX footage?

Hey guys, I'm going to be going out to Scotland this summer to do a documentary and I THINK I'll be shooting on the EX-1 (Might end up shooting HDV but hopefully not). Anyway, I am obviously going to need to transfer footage from the cards to a hard drive. I only have a desktop but one of the members of my crew has a regular MacBook with 4gb ram, and I think a 2.8ghz dual core, though it might be less. Is a standard macbook with a RAM upgrade sufficient for just transferring the footage? I'm going to be editing on my MacPro tower I just need to be able to get the footage onto an external drive. I might be able to get a macbook pro if i have to, but this is the easiest option, as long as it will work. Apologies in advance Im not very used to the EX workflow, something I will be remedying this summer before I leave.

MacBook's don't have an Express Card slot. You'll need a MacBook Pro for that. Or you'll need Sony's USB, SxS card reader. Transferring using the Express Card slot is significantly faster than the USB card reader, but speed may not be an issue.

I use my powerbook G4 and the usb to transfer the footage and it works fine, I will upgrade at some stage this year to pro laptop which accepts the cards straight in :)
You will need to download the software from sony to allow you to import the footage from the camera but once you have used it a couple of times it works well and is very easy to get to grips with.
