Guys wonder if someone can make a recommendation. I want to be able to output some QT files as flash, there are a number of reasons.

I dont want Flash as I would never use it for its intended purpose. So can someone recommend a converter.

I tried a program called videoflash converter which does the job albeit not that great.

Im happy to pay for a solution that works. (just not as high as the $700 USD they ask for Flash). I would pay $200-$300 for a quality solution if it exists.

Any thoughts appreciated.

For what purpose? I ask because there are a number of similar codecs that do as good or better job at what flash does for much less $. Such as DivX for example. And you get a free flash conversion for any video you upload to youtube. All you need is an embedded video downloader plugin for your internet browser to get the flash back from Youtube.

Since I have Flash, I don't usually worry about this sort of thing... but when you say you want to output some QT files as 'Flash' do you mean resulting in a SWF file, or a FLV type file.

Using 'Flash' itself, the codec used is called On2 VP6, which is of course proprietary... what would one expect from Macro Media... now that Adobe has bought and continued the Flash product, 'Flash Video' has become more of a container file, which can support H.264, or others...

An FLV can be embedded in a SWF, but again because I use Flash itself I don't tend to dig deeper into these things...

A quick check of the web for QT -> FLV (or SWF) gives...

I don't make any claims about these...

Thanks for the responses. The reason I ask this is, I often send roughs to clients who only have Windows based machines and often these dont have QT, but most often have flash. Putting H.264 into a flash container seems the right way to go. I also need to keep the image relatively large.

As far as file extension. Whatever is most commonly used in the PC world.

I do lots of work in Flash, and FLV is a good delivery method for windows & PC users. I use Sorenson Squeeze, which is pretty fab. You can resize, crop, adjust colors, add video & audio fade in/outs, and have full control over data rate. However, I always use an SWF file to "contain" the videos; FLV files can play in QT and WMV players, but on my system, double clicking an FLV launches flash, not QT - unless you change the "open with" parameter in the "get info" box. Squeeze has the ability to output your video as an SWF file, but I haven't played with this. Looking at the menus, looks like there's the same level of control. I hit their site and see if there's a demo to play with. It's a must-have app if you deal with much video in flash format. I think the basic version (that I use) was about $400.
