Mac recomendation?

Hey all,

Need some opinions on the MBP from the Dual core 2.13 range to the 2.66 ghz.

I expecting to find a used one and purchase with or upgrade to (4gb) memory. Of course will be using all the fcp and adobe software... 17" screen... fw800 external HD...

Are the video cards going to be different? Am I going to notice a 2.13 vs 2.4 vs a 2.66 ghz?

What would you guys recommend ? Thinking I can find something nice for $1500ish

I bought a used 17" MBP 2.4GHz with still 2 years of apple care for $1000... then again i bought it from a friend!, but you could find something good in the $1500 range =)
It runs FCP7 just perfect, Snow Leopard is soon to come. (I bought it already)

i picked up a mac pro 2.66 ghz- quad (4 cores)-2 gig ram-500 gig hd on ebay for $1100....look around on ebay and craigslist u can find something there.....and thr ram upgrade is cheap nowadays and the extra internal hardrives are too.

It was $1200 by it now, then the guy lowed it to $1100 the last day... I bid on a ton of MBP's for $1200-1500 for pretty much the same thing so I was like BUY!

I would like to say this is my 1st mac, but I bought one of those crappy 12" mac books years ago back and sold it a few days later. So... its my 1st real mac hah.

Only thing I can gripe about is it not having the restore CD's... A buddy has the MBP 15/2.5ghz version would those be the same if I do need them? Or should I get them from Mac?

Also, apple care available on preowned macs?

Its got snow, ilife 09 and CS3 installed now...

Mac Pro

Mac Pro

but as of yet there's no way to edit AVCHD natively on the Mac platform so you're relegated to transcoding to a codec of your flavor: AIC, Pro Res, DNxHD, Cineform, etc. Suffice to say they all result in massive file sizes. Apple just released updates to their desktop line: Mini, iMac, and Mac Pro and without a doubt, if your budget allows, get a Mac Pro for the obvious reasons including internal storage capacity. I'm curious as to how those new processors handle AVCHD since they're supposedly leaps and bounds better than the older ones.

I have a MacbookPro dual core 2.5ghz, 4gb of sdram, etc and running Snow Leopard and CS4 production suite. I can edit AVCHD directly off of the SD card if I want. It is super slow but it works. My guess is if you want to work seriously invest in a Mac Pro (even an entry level would be worth it because you can always upgrade along the way) and CS4 Premiere Pro. Look at the extra cost as worth it because the computer will last you a long time and you will never have virus or major software issues. The OS is so stable I rarely have crashes and even if I do it doesn't freak my computer out like my PC's used to. Also, invest in the Apple Care plan because it really is worth it. Three years of service on anything you need for your mac for free. My friend has had computer's replaced with no problems when he had a monitor issue (banding I believe) and a hard drive failure.

You could use his restore discs, but you can also get a copy of Snow Leopard and do a fresh install with it... SL is $29.99 at the Apple store, and i have seen it for $24.99 at MicroCenter, After the install anything else needed would be free thru "Software Update"
I don't think apple care is available on used macs, but i think "MACK" has a used equipment warranty, it's worth checking it out!

Good news then - It comes with the snow leopard and iLife discs, just no 'restore cds' by what the seller said.
