Mac Pro 8-Core VS. 12-Core

It's time to upgrade one of our systems, currently running on a 2006 Mac Pro Duo Core 2.66ghz.

I'm leaning more towards the Mac Pro Tower 8-Core with 12 Gigs of RAM. What I wanted to ask here...is there a dramatic difference with the 12-core versus 8-Core? I know the answer should be a simple "yes", but in real world FCP and After Effects work...would we be saving that much more in rendering time to justify the cost? I'm happy to spend the extra if there is that much more difference but a minimal difference between the two won't be enough for me to pny up the money. Anything will be faster than our current Duo Core system.

In FCP there will probably be little to no difference since FCP cannot utilize multiple cores. AE should see a difference as long as you have enough RAM to prevent it from getting bottle necked.

If you need to encode video to MPEG-2 or MPEG-4, the extra cores can really speed up the encode.

Also, FCP-X (there, I said it!) can use all 12 cores.

Compressor and FCP X won't be that much faster on 12 cores than 8. There's a point where the amount of processing needed diminishes with too many cores. We're not talking about that much processing load here for a whole 12 cores to make much difference over 8.
