Been using this beast for the past 4+ years as my main FCPX rig. And Word rig, but well, overkill. It's a 2009 (4,1) with the firmware flashed to 2010 (5,1). I have never had a single issue because of this (and it's quite a common practice). At the beginning of 2019, I upgraded the video card to an Radeon RX 580 with 8GB VRAM. But even more recently, I switched to a 2017 iMac which is faster in some areas but still slower in others. Anyway, list of specs and upgrades below:
No dents in the case that I could find, but there are a few scratches.
Ships in original Mac Pro box. No keyboard or mouse.
$1,100 shipped in CONUS, OBO
- 2009 flashed to 2010 (5,1) firmware; it will read as a 2009 in System Profile (see pic), but a 5,1 when you get detailed info (see other pic). Which is what matters.
- Two 6-core 3.33GHz Xeon processors (12 cores total)
- 64GB RAM
- AMD Radeon Sapphire Pulse RX580 with 8GB VRAM — just bought this in January
- Original video card (I think it's a GT120) in case you need to get into the boot screen (single user mode, etc.) for some reason.
- Upgraded Bluetooth 4.0 / 802.11AC module
- Moved the BT antenna outside the case for better reception -- I have since moved it back inside the case and it works fine if you're not storing you machine in a closet.
- Sonnet Allegro 4-port USB 3.0 PCIe card
- 512GB SSD for system (internal)
- 512GB SSD for system backup (that’s what I used it for, at least; internal)
- Two DVD-R drives so you can party like it’s 2003 (or when that one special client needs a CD; you know the one)
- Runs Mojave
