Mac OSX Lion Info - FCP update info puhleeze!

+1

I'm still working with FCP 6 and I still have not mastered it yet, so this topic is really pointless at least to me. Secondly Blu Ray is still not even relevant. Very few clients are using this technology and Dvd is here to stay for a long time.....
BD not relevant? I hope you are kidding! Might not be that relevant for corporate or wedding, but pretty much standard for any documentary or fiction releases. Even in the world of mtn bike, ski or skate video most of the new releases in 2010 offered BD version.

If you need blu ray, then purchase the Premiere, OnLocation, Encore bundle and author away.

I don't see much of a market for one off blu rays, but that just what I see. If you have clients that need it, buy the tools that you need.

With all due respect David, but I think you've got it backwards. After spending thousands of $$$ (computers plus software) I would expect the company I supported finically to give the tools I need in a bundle I purchased. But I will vote with my $$$ when time comes. Right now I don't want to learn new platform, but the workarounds with BD is just plain annoying.

But FCP can't even edit with P2 MXF media natively without buying a plugin. Pretty much every other NLE on the market can at least read directly off a P2 card or P2 card structure and begin editing without having to rewrap it first. And however fast that rewrap is, it's not as fast as editing native, and DVCProHD is a perfectly acceptable source to edit natively. That's where FCP needs to loosen its grip and rewrite its code - to back away from "all Quicktime all the time" and support at least the most editing friendly source formats out there.

I still only have FCP5 and it can edit MXF natively, the only problem is not keeping the P2 card structure in place so the audio and video files are separated.

How does it edit the MXF natively? I wasn't aware that FCP5 could do that. I thought everything had to be Quicktime. What's your process to get the P2 footage into FCP?

I agree what's the point of editing in HD if you can't deliver in HD, about half of my clients choose blu Ray if I show them the difference.

I don't expect anything from a company whether it is Apple, Microsoft, AVID, or somebody.

If I need tools to make money, then I evaluate which tools are available and purchase them.

Publicly traded companies are in the business to make money. My advice, not that any one asked, is also to be in the business to make money.

That means finding the tool you need to make money, rather than expecting any particular company to provide it.

Just import the folder/file straight from your assets box. There is nothing to it. Again, the video and audio are broken up, but you do have the file names intact so it's a matter of syncing up the file names.
